Using Runners Rugs in Your Home
Everyone loves to go rug shopping. You have spent time imagining what that perfect rug looks like and how it will look in your home. Undoubtedly, an area rug is a bold statement in any home. It’s the centerpiece that you often design your whole room around. You choose furnishings and art pieces that compliment your beloved rug. However, one of the most overlooked rug choices is the runner. Did you know that you can also purchase an amazing handwoven rug runner for your home that is just as breathtaking and versatile as a larger area rug?
Places to Use a Runner
A runner is made for maximum use. You might be placing the item in a hallway or some other area of the home that sustains a great deal of foot traffic. However, they are also ideal for a quiet, hidden corner of your home. You might rarely look at the spot but if you place a runner there the entire area starts to pop and draw the eyes.
Here are just a few areas of your home that will benefit from a runner:
Bedroom: Do you have amazing hardwood floors or lavish tile in your bedroom? Sure it looks amazing but it’s cold underfoot! How many times have you swung your bare tootsies out of the bed only to place them on the freezing expanse of the floor? Even during the height of summer the air-conditioning can make your flooring cold and uncomfortable. However, placing a lush runner along the side of your bed means that your feet will be instantly encased in warmth and softness. No more padding quickly across the frigid flooring in your bare feet or searching for those lost slippers. Imagine flanking each side of your bed in luxurious matching runners. Undoubtedly, your feet will thank you for the added warmth and softness.
Kitchen: If you have a breakfast nook or an eat-in kitchen then you may already have an area rug in the room. However, a matching low-pile patterned rug that runs parallel to your kitchen cabinets is a fantastic way to add color to the room and add cushion for your feet. On such an expanse, you will want to use rug pads to hold the runner in place. Why not choose a truly vibrant color for the location? Something that stands out in bold contrast against your kitchen cabinets and counter tops. In such an area, you will want to pick a low pile rug just in case it becomes wet or you accidentally spill something on its surface.
Closets and Odd Areas: If you have a large walk-in closet then why not lay a runner across its expanse? Also, in front of the washer and dryer is a suitable place for a soft runner. Another often overlooked area that can benefit from a runner is a large walk-in pantry.
Bathrooms: It’s time to ditch the traditional bath mat and go with a truly outstanding runner in front of your tub, shower, or vanity. The beauty of the runner is that you can easily lay down one that spans six feet or more so it will encompass the entire length of your tub with ease. Runners might not seem traditional in a bathroom setting but they do look amazing. Just be sure to use a rug pad to hold the runner in place if your bathroom floor is hard tile or marble because unlike a bath mat, the runner will not have a rubber back and you will want to prevent slipping.
Large areas: Do you love rugs? Rugs of all sizes and shapes? Vintage and modern? Wool, natural fiber, hand tied, handwoven, and everything in between? Then why not break away from the norm of having one large area rug and instead use runners to define a large room’s space. In addition, choose runners that compliment one masterpiece area rug. Lay a runner behind the sofa or between the recliners. The runner will not detract from the area rug but instead highlight it for a very bold statement.
Hallways: Yes, the most common place to use a runner is a hallway. It creates a truly outstanding focal point and makes a smooth transition from doorway to doorway.
