When Pantone unveiled the 2022 Color of the Year, it had some of us in the design industry scratching our heads. The warm, bold lavender shade, named “Very Peri”, is a brand-new shade that Pantone has invented from scratch. According to Laurie Pressman, Vice President of the Pantone Color Institute, “Creating a new color for the first time in the history reflects the global innovation and transformation taking place. As society continues to recognize color as a critical form of communication, and a way to express and affect ideas and emotions and engage and connect, the complexity of this new red-violet infused blue hue highlights the expansive possibilities that lay before us”.
The question is: who exactly is daring enough to incorporate this purple shade into their home, or the homes of their clients? We will leave the design advice to the Interior Designers out there, and instead will suggest 5 area rugs that we recommend to complement “Very Peri”.
- This Contemporary wool rug, in deep rust with dark purple striations and a modern motif in periwinkle blue complements “Very Peri” perfectly since the colors are not far off from the blue/orange relationship of the color wheel.

5. According to Pantone, “Very Peri injects a sense of playful freshness into home interiors, enlivening a space through unusual color combinations…and is also particularly eye-catching accent in a pattern”. This whimsical Moroccan style rug (below) is a perfect example.
