Preserving the original structure and ensuring the longevity of your antique fine rugs is of utmost importance. At AZADI Fine Rugs we offer expert preservation that restores and stabilizes your fine handwoven rugs to last for generations.
The most common parts of an antique rug that need repairing are:
Rug Ends
The extended fringe ends is where the knots were tied originally. You should never vacuum over fringe.
Rug Edges
The edge (or binding) of the rug can begin to wear away (especially if the rug is in a high traffic area.) This repair needs to be done by hand, not by machine.
Holes
Punctures, tears, and breaks can result in larger holes if left unattended.
Field Wear
This occurs from abrasion or usage, like walking on the rug. Normal wear can also occur when rug edges are turned under, wrinkled and not laying flat or even.
While the repairs above are not everyday issues, regular cleaning is important for every day preservation to keep your investment looking new.
Spills
If spills are treated immediately you may avoid a stain. Using a moist, clean cloth, use club soda and blot from the edges toward the center. Avoid scrubbing or using any home remedies. Attend to flooded rugs immediately by calling an expert at cleaning handwoven area rugs. Time is of the essence here.
Everyday Cleaning
It’s best to interfere as little as possible with the natural lanolin of antique wool rugs. Avoiding dry cleaning and steam cleaning. Instead, have your rug handwashed by a professional area rug cleaner every couple of years. It is also important to have your fine rugs assessed every 1-2 years for wear and tear, padding, hand washing, moth damage, and overall heath of the rug.
